It sounds like your stock? suspension may have been overworked and damaged. If this is the case, I would repair / upgrade your shocks 1st, and then look at adding an air suspension kit. This will ensure your truck can handle the payloads you need to haul, and it should make the air bag suspension system last longer. If you're confident that the shocks are OK, then yes, air springs will firm up the rear end.
