By: joshmcconnell654. on 06 Oct 08, 02:39:51 I'm no golf pro but i played baseball and golf in high school and golf in college and during baseball season if i went golfing my batting average went down because my swing would change to a golf swing. I've always been told by coaches that they are two totaly different swings. I can see how u might relate the two to get a certain level of comfort but i wouldn't recomend using the same swing for both sports...But like i said im no golf pro just my personal experience

Actually a golf ... By: basketcase3000. on 24 Jun 08, 18:06:17 Actually a golf swing is very similar to a baseball swing. Practise a baseball swing with a golf club, and then do the same movement/swing whilst bent over in the golf stance over the ball. So long as you begin to uncock your wrists at the beginning of the downswing (as you would with a baseball swing) you'll get a good contact and the ball will go straight.

Hi Steve, great ... By: RdSoxFan618. on 23 Jul 08, 14:54:51 Hi Steve, great video. I went to the range and tried this out yesterday, and I was very much hitting it straighter. I just have a few questions:
1) I was hitting VERY low trajectory shots. Should I move my stance back (move the ball up?)
2) What happens after the takeaway? I took it as you bend your left arm in? (I'm a lefty, right arm for you I believe)
3) What is the correct plane? You could be bringing the club up at too high or you could be bringing the club up too low.
Thanks
It is imperative ... By: clnorris82. on 04 Jul 08, 17:28:09 It is imperative that on your driver your swing plane is low and flat on the takeaway. The wrists will naturally hinge on the backswing and this promotes the sweeping motion on the downswing. This lesson does a great job in teaching the first motion to ensure a successful swing. The steeper the swing with the driver on the takeaway the greater chance the golfer will slice the shot. 30 minutes on the range after watching this video my slice is gone and I am hitting the ball 240 again. Thanks!!!

no no no you miss ... By: pecky1234. on 26 May 08, 09:55:41 no no no you miss the point. in the backswing, i believe it is incorrect to say EVERYBODY needs the same thing. some ppl need to be more behind the ball, some need to be more centred. in a more centred backswing, as the left hip turns it will slide at the same time. and this in turn will shift the weight forward
Can you show me an ... By: RingerDaMan. on 25 May 08, 20:06:12 Can you show me an example of a professional that finishes with his weight on his back foot?
definately get your ... By: pecky1234. on 25 May 08, 13:32:33 definately get your weight off you front foot. not everyone needs to get more behind the ball. keeping the centre of the base of the spine more centred will help them stay on top of the ball. i dont like to keep weight on the front foot. on the downswing, as the left hip clears it will also slide forward. again it is totally dependent on the players needs
Twisting the hip is ... By: RingerDaMan. on 24 May 08, 23:46:43 Twisting the hip is the biggest FAULT I see with the hip action and you would prefer it for some people? You MUST get your weight off the back foot, but if you try to twist as you're advocating, you'll never get off of it and eventually develop a reverse pivot.
aorry ringer, but ... By: pecky1234. on 24 May 08, 21:08:13 aorry ringer, but you really over complicate things. and you assume this would work for everyone. but it proberly wont. some people need more centred hips, where your rigte hip kinda moves towards the target, whereas some need more a move over the right hip
Thanks a lot for ... By: quacktron. on 22 Apr 08, 19:00:21 Thanks a lot for doing these videos Steve. One tip though, have the sun in your face instead of your back and the shot (video shot that is) will look a whole lot better!
Great explanation ... By: mpb1472. on 23 Dec 07, 12:42:37 Great explanation of the hip motion in the swing. I find myself in the finish position that you show of the hips that just turn. It looks like a coming out of the shot pose and it results in many sliced or pushed shots. I think the spine tilt you show,( is it reverse K?) might be something I will try to implement to stop this. I do see my left foot turning open all the time also. If I square it to target line its tough to get around that left hip and it wants to move.
Also with regards ... By: hogansking. on 21 Dec 07, 11:32:07 Also with regards to the left toes a little off ground at finish is because as we finish into a taller straighter finish, our spine becomes more erect placing more weight further back towards our heels. Talking when you look at the swing from the profile view (down the line). For those who remain with more of their starting spine angle at finish...the left toes come up less.
Steve mentioned he ... By: hogansking. on 21 Dec 07, 11:25:31 Steve mentioned he doesn't want this happening prior the impact area which would cause an outside-in motion...and he is right. If the left hip turns prematurely (before the weight gets back on left side...knee over ankle)then this occurs...
tonqzilla, the ... By: hogansking. on 21 Dec 07, 11:19:41 tonqzilla, the reason the inside of front (left) foot is a little off the ground at finish is because the left hip completed it's role of turning to target to a full finish. The upper body ends up over the left leg placing more weight slightly to the outside of foot...

... By: RingerDaMan. on 26 Nov 07, 05:44:37 Great question!
Lets revision your walk through a bit. Imagine that there is a coffee table right at your knees and only a few inches away. Your objective is to walk through the swing without letting your legs touch the table.
I think its clear ... By: olivershoe. on 24 Nov 07, 20:38:39 I think its clear what initiates the downswing. Many people are confused about what continues to drive the club through impact. After the hips are square from the downswing, what drives the club to impact and release? I find myself off balance and losing spine tilt if i continue to "step through" with the hips only. Should one focus on driving the right shoulder to impact after the left hip is replaced? Or should i focus on "stepping through" and leave shoulder drive passive?
Re-establishment of ... By: backbones88. on 05 Sep 07, 15:21:02 Re-establishment of the left hip made easier with a proper setup and using the leverage built up in your right leg to do it---great explanation!
Is it safe to say ... By: HunterDT. on 30 Aug 07, 12:20:15 Is it safe to say that once my body becomes weak and tired, the first thing that can stop happening is my hip turn? I have noticed this, and when this happens, I end up coming WAY over the top enough so that everything is a s#$%k.

The left hip in all ... By: tongzilla. on 25 Aug 07, 04:00:06 The left hip in all good golf swings HAS TO turn out of the way. Of course, you need a certain amount of hip slide before that happens, but whether you look at in terms of the right hip turning around the left or vice versa, it happens. And the reason why GOOD players have their toes come off at the finish is because their swings are DYNAMIC.
Can you provide an ... By: RingerDaMan. on 24 Aug 07, 23:07:44 Can you provide an example? Perhaps maybe SOMEONE out there with incredible hand eye coordination, but you'll be lucky to find one.
So you think grip ... By: tongzilla. on 24 Aug 07, 21:19:28 So you think grip and fade ball flight causes the inside left foot to come off the ground at finish? But you and I both know that this also happens with a draw flight and neutral grip.

Good question ... By: RingerDaMan. on 24 Aug 07, 21:15:55 Good question Tongzilla. First off I believe Hogan actually had a bit of a stronger grip than neutral. Not much of one, but a little... and he was trying to play a fade. If you want to hit a fade, by all means you can pull the left hip away from the ball.
Why do so many ... By: tongzilla. on 24 Aug 07, 20:41:15 Why do so many great players including Hogan and Woods finish with the inside left foot off the ground?

With the modern ,slightly flatter, swing plane taught in the last 15 years, the club squares up with the rotation of the body, not by the manipulation of the hands.

I'm no golf pro but i played baseball and golf in high school and golf in college and during baseball season if i went golfing my batting average went down because my swing would change to a golf swing. I've always been told by coaches that they are two totaly different swings. I can see how u might relate the two to get a certain level of comfort but i wouldn't recomend using the same swing for both sports...But like i said im no golf pro just my personal experience

Actually a golf swing is very similar to a baseball swing. Practise a baseball swing with a golf club, and then do the same movement/swing whilst bent over in the golf stance over the ball. So long as you begin to uncock your wrists at the beginning of the downswing (as you would with a baseball swing) you'll get a good contact and the ball will go straight.
